Kite Making

Arts4All

At Arts4All (A community arts organization operating out of the DPNCHC), I was asked if there were any workshops I wanted to facilitate. Without missing a beat, I said, "I want to do a kite-making workshop."

The theme of the workshop was the relationship between humans and nature, with the kite symbolizing our lives. The string represented what was within our control, while the wind represented nature. The philosophy behind the workshop was to explore how we move with nature, using what we have to the best of our ability, striving to fly the kite as high as possible—just as we aim to live our lives to the fullest.

My role in the project: Facilitator

Kites carry cultural significance, making the workshop an opportunity to explore and share themes of cultural history, symbolism, and tradition.

The goals of the workshop were to foster creativity, mindfulness, and community bonding, while also providing a space for participants to reflect on their personal relationship with nature.

The workshop aimed to be a fun and engaging way for participants to explore creativity through hands-on design, offering a space for self-expression where they could showcase their individuality through their choice of designs, colors, and decorations.

The tangible result of a kite provided a sense of accomplishment and pride by connecting the creative process to a physical object.

The workshop was a success, with participants actively engaging and sharing their connections to kites, recalling how they used to fly them as children. Some even ran across the room, joyfully attempting to make their kites fly. The atmosphere was filled with happiness and excitement, and several participants chose to take their kites home as a reminder of the experience. The positive energy and enthusiastic participation demonstrated the workshop’s impact, creating a sense of connection, nostalgia, and accomplishment among the group.
