CarePlay 2024

Ruth Howard

CarePlay is an interdisciplinary project led by Ruth Howard that explores the routines and roles of care—both giving and receiving—through installation, performance, and storytelling. Participants write down a routine of how they took care of someone, or how someone took care of them (In my case, how I take care of myself) and then use small objects to create scenes that symbolize the act of care, bringing personal routines to life in a reflective way.

My role in the project: Supporting Artist

CarePlay is a profound exploration of the human condition, rooted in the universal yet deeply personal act of care. At its core, the project delves into the routines and gestures that define how we connect with others and with ourselves, offering a lens through which to examine the essence of empathy and interdependence.

In a world increasingly driven by efficiency and individualism, CarePlay reclaims the quiet, intentional moments that often go unnoticed—like preparing a meal, holding a hand, or simply being present.

During the CarePlay project, my roles involved performing a CarePlay act, where I participated in the performance by engaging with the CarePlay set, contributing to its creative and expressive aspects. As a supporting artist, I worked closely with Ruth, ensuring the smooth flow of activities and offering creative input where needed. Additionally, I was responsible for documenting the process and capturing key moments through photographs and videos, which played an important role in reflecting on the project and preserving its development for future reference and evaluation.
